Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is looking for well qualified Principal Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Systems Engineering organization. This position is located in San Diego, CA. In this role you will execute system engineering tasking across the entire lifecycle of a system including the development and integration of new capabilities on the RQ-4 NATO platform. This role will entail execution of cradle-to-grave integration and leadership across all Systems Engineering disciplines including requirements development, use case development, capability (hardware and software) development, integration planning, lab integration, test planning, formal test, verification and fielded test and mission support.
Essential Functions:
Lead cross-IPT development of system level requirements and use cases
Implement requirements verification methodology and traceability
Lead development of interface definitions and integration plans
Conduct formal hands-on integration and support capabilities-based system level testing of fully integrated complex software and hardware subsystems within Test environment
Evaluate integration and test anomalies and assist disposition and correction of issues as found
Perform requirements verification and selloff
Provide support to flight test and fielded assets
Evaluate software/logic-related findings in the field though the utilization of the lab environment
Present technical recommendations to internal and external technical leadership
Direct interaction with the customer with understanding their mission needs and flowing that information back to the engineering and leadership team
Basic Qualifications:
Principal Systems Engineer (level 3) consideration – Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with 5 years of engineering experience; MS degree in STEM discipline with 3 years of experience in engineering. PhD degree in a STEM discipline with 1 year of engineering experience
An active DoD Secret Clearance
Experience in full lifecycle of Systems Engineering, including requirements decomposition, integration, test planning/ procedure development, and requirements verification
Experience in ICD development and integrating hardware and software in a lab environment
Experience with root cause investigations
Experience with briefing the customer and senior leadership
Must have ability to obtain and maintain Program Access (PAR) within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in software development, including interfacing with systems engineering and integration and test
Experience in troubleshooting system issues in a lab or the field and identifying root cause corrective actions
Experience supporting field operations including maintenance, mission support, and fielded issues investigations
Experience with NATO programs
Familiarity with TeamCenter PLC and working knowledge of Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket)
Strong leadership, excellent communication, and strong technical writing/presentation skills
Active TS/SCI clearance

Salary Range: $110,300 - $165,000
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
