Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains productive relationships with patients, colleagues, and management, demonstrating accountability, enthusiasm, and commitment.

  • Promotes healthy relationships, cultural understanding, and a work-life balance, while identifying and communicating safety hazards.

  • Utilizes adult learning principles to teach patients, families, students, and new staff, fostering an environment of open dialogue and continuous improvement.

  • Applies the nursing process within Relationship-Based Care to create a healing environment and formulate patient goals and plans of care.

  • Demonstrates critical thinking to identify and address clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual needs of patients.

The individual must demonstrate the knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care for assigned patients, with an understanding of growth and development across the lifespan. They must be able to assess patient status, interpret relevant data, and address age-specific care needs according to department policies. The position requires good clinical judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities in a dynamic environment. Mobility, physical stamina, and visual manual dexterity are required for patient care tasks. Zero to two years of experience is needed; BSN is preferred. Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with colleagues, patients, and families are essential. UPMC offers flexible scheduling options, including night and weekend shifts with premium pay.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • UPMC-approved national certification preferred

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license or Temporary Practice Permit (TPP)

  • CPR required within 30 days of hire

  • Graduate Nurses must complete licensure exam within 6 months of hire or one year of graduation

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Registered Nurse (RN) OR Temporary Practice Permit (TPP)

*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
