Job Title: Pharmacy Technician 100% Remote

Job Description

Join our Prior Authorization Operations team as a Pharmacy Technician. In this role, you will process prior authorization requests accurately and timely, ensuring client performance commitments are met. Using various business applications, you will analyze, obtain information, and enter prior authorization data necessary for claims adjudication. You will interact with internal and external customers to provide and obtain information, delivering outstanding service and quality. Work under general supervision with varying levels of oversight based on demonstrated skill and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Process and finalize prior authorization requests within clients’ turnaround time and Performance Guarantees utilizing guidelines.

  • Enter prior authorizations into the system and prioritize requests.

  • Check formulary alternatives, review tried and failed medications, and apply Prior Authorization Guidelines.

  • Utilize drug references to verify the drug being requested is indicated and approved for the condition.

  • Document all related information regarding the prior authorization approval or non-approval.

  • Respond to incoming requests via phone, fax, ePA, and return status of the prior authorization to physicians and pharmacies.

  • Conform to defined roles and responsibilities and rules of engagement between prior authorization processing and clinical decision making.

  • Partner with assigned clinical pharmacists to ensure strict adherence to administrative processing boundaries and timeframes.

  • Achieve prior authorization processing productivity and accuracy standards.

  • Analyze, research, and resolve prior authorization processing issues as appropriate for experience and career path level.

  • Coordinate notifications to members, physicians, and pharmacies to obtain missing information, manage pended requests, and communicate prior authorization determinations.

  • Document prior authorization related information and status.

  • Make outbound calls to obtain information and answer questions about prior authorization status.

  • Collaborate with MCO and Self-Insured client teams to understand PBM clients’ prior authorization processing requirements and expectations.

  • Complete special prior authorization processing projects and provide accurate, timely, and reliable information to client claim inquiries.

  • Collaborate with Contact Center Services in resolving prior authorization inquiries and handling incoming calls during high volume periods.

  • Protect and maintain confidentiality and privacy of all prior authorization and member information, following strict protocols for date stamping and storage/security of forms and related information.

Essential Skills

  • Active license in state of residence

  • Minimum of 3 years of pharmacy technician experience

  • Maintain a PTCB (CPhT) certification or State Pharmacy Technician license without restrictions

  • Understanding of managed pharmacy benefit concepts including formulas, prior authorizations, edits, and claim adjudication

  • Working knowledge of customer service in a retail/outpatient pharmacy environment

  • Familiarity with pharmacy software data submission requirements such as CovermyMeds or Electronic Prior Authorization (e-PA)

  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office/Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Experience with Windows-based database programs

Work Environment

Remote work environment. Requires a quiet workspace and high-speed internet connection. Shifts available: 5-1.30pm, 7.30-4pm, 9.30-6pm, 11-7.30pm, 2.30pm-11pm. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.50 - $23.50/hr.
