Responsibilities
Paints one type or a variety of surfaces, such as interior and exterior of mobile and stationary equipment, fittings, furnishings, machinery, and other surfaces where appearance as well as surface protection is important.
Prepares surfaces, mixes paint, applies prime, intermediate, and finish coats primarily with spray gun.
Uses gloss, semi-gloss, and special paints, enamels, varnishes, stains, lacquers, and shellacs.
Assures the protection of surrounding areas and, if required by specific work assignments, assures proper adjustment of ladders and scaffolding.
Assures proper maintenance of equipment.
Applies tar-like undercoating to the undercarriages of numerous types of equipment.
May be required to coat surfaces in cramped and hard to reach places.
Required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
Work is normally performed inside well-lighted, heated and ventilated shop areas. Some outside work is required.
Subject to noise, dust, and fumes. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises.
Painter may be required to wear safety devices and clothing such as aprons, respirator, gloves, and safety glasses.
Qualifications
- Must be a US Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a NACI.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and once hired will need to pass an annual physical.
- Be able to lift, carry, and set up equipment and components weighing up to 75 lbs.
- Must have experience controlling blasting hose with nozzles subject to high pressure, i.e., up to 100 psi.
- Must be alert and experience recognizing malfunctions to sandblast and safety equipment.
- Must be able to work while wearing protective suit and respirator.
- Must be able to perform duties during prolonged standing, stooping, and bending, and walking.
- Able to work inside booth which may be extremely hot during summer months.
- Must be able to work First, Second and Third Shift as dictated by workload.
Physical Demands:
- Be able to lift, carry, and set up equipment and components weighing up to 75 lbs.
