New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG), a subsidiary of New Jersey Resources is seeking a Corrosion Technician II. This position is responsible for designing and coordinating installation of cathodic protection systems to prevent pipeline and infrastructure corrosion. Coordinating installations in compliance with company policies and federal regulations. Maintaining and monitoring cathodically protected distribution mains and services to ensure effectiveness and regulatory compliance. Updating records promptly to track system performance.
Major Responsibilities:
In accordance with Company standards and federal regulations, monitors mains and services currently under cathodic protection to maintain the integrity of corrosion control.
Locates and repairs, or directs the repair of shorts, breaks, or damages in the cathodic protection system and design systems of repair when necessary.
Lends technical support in the installation of cathodic protection devices, including the installation of rectifiers, test stations, bonds and anodes.
Assist with the installation of cathodic protection devices such as rectifiers, test stations, bond and anodes to protect steel distribution piping.
Assist in compiling reports for submission to BPU.
Prepare and obtain construction permits from State, Township and Counties.
Lends technical assistance to Corrosion Engineers and Corrosion Technicians.
Position Specifications:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related science is preferred.
At least 3- 5 years of experience, in cathodic protection and corrosion control technology. The combined equivalent of education and experience including natural gas distribution systems will be considered.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and negotiation skills.
Must be detail-oriented and flexible to handle multiple assignments and deadlines.
Other CP related work experience with Certification Association for Materials Protection & Performance (AMPP, formerly NACE) certification preferred.
Working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS preferred.
Must be proficient with GIS/GPS and in the use of computer, including the use of basic software such as MS Word, MS Excel.
Must be able to read and understand engineering drawings.
Must have basic knowledge of natural gas pipeline systems, including, familiarity with the hazards of natural gas.
Individual must meet "Operator Qualifications" requirements as defined under 49CFR 192 Subpart N.

This position is deemed safety-sensitive under the U.S. Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration’s (PHMSA) regulations. Among other things, employees in this position are subject to drug and alcohol testing, including pre-employment testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing and post-accident testing. PHMSA-required drug tests include testing for marijuana. The use of marijuana, or testing positive for marijuana, is disqualifying and will lead to removal from performing safety-sensitive functions as well as disciplinary action.
