The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. The position involves collecting and storing specimens, updating patient information, and maintaining compliance with regulations.
Responsibilities
Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data.
Decontaminate work areas and update patient information.
Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
Explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process clearly and courteously to patients.
Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
Fully understand all physician orders.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
Ensure accuracy by checking all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.
Package specimens for transport and store samples according to required temperatures.
Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label, and follow procedures for transport.
Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Attend annual department trainings.
Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
Phlebotomy experience or certification with at least 1-2 years of experience
Pediatric and geriatric experience preferred
Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (if required)
Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
High School Diploma or GED
0-2 years of experience
Work Environment
This role covers clinical sites in the Wichita area and requires at least 1 year of experience drawing blood. Work hours can range from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with no holidays, and may include some weekend shifts. The position involves traveling to various locations within the Wichita area, with shift schedules provided a week in advance.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00
